Sample Collection Instructions
For accurate results, the following instructions must be followed:
- Sample type: 6 mL whole blood in 2 Blue Top (Sodium Citrate) tubes.
- Mix thoroughly by inversion.
- Transport to the lab within 4 hours.
- If delayed, prepare Platelet Poor Plasma (PPP) by centrifuging the sample at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes.
- Transfer supernatant to a clean plastic tube and centrifuge again at 3600 rpm for 15 minutes. Transfer the final supernatant to a labeled clean plastic screw-capped vial and freeze immediately.
- Overnight fasting is preferred.
- Duly filled coagulation Requisition form (Form 15) is mandatory.
- Discontinue Heparin for 1 day and Oral Anticoagulants for 7 days prior to sampling with prior consent from the treating Physician.
