- Refrain from ejaculation for 2-7 days (ideally 3 days) before the test. Collect the entire ejaculate into a sterile, wide-mouthed container provided by the laboratory. The sample must be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour of collection and kept at body temperature (e.g., in a shirt pocket) during transport. Avoid using condoms for collection. Urinate and wash the genital area with warm water and dry thoroughly before collection. Obtain the sample by masturbation only.
