FISH Multiple Myeloma with Positive Selection of CD138 Cells Test
Introduction
The FISH Multiple Myeloma with Positive Selection of CD138 Cells Test is a specialized diagnostic procedure that plays a vital role in the detection and management of multiple myeloma. This test utilizes Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) to identify chromosomal abnormalities in bone marrow samples, which are critical for determining the prognosis and treatment options for patients diagnosed with this malignancy.
What the Test Measures
This test specifically measures several chromosomal abnormalities associated with multiple myeloma, including:
- Deletion of 13q14.3
- Deletion of 17p13.1
- Translocation t(11;14) CCND1/IGH
- Translocation t(4;14) FGFR3/IGH
- Translocation t(14;16) IGH/MAF
- Gain of 1q
Who Should Consider This Test
This test is recommended for patients exhibiting symptoms of multiple myeloma, which may include:
- Unexplained bone pain
- Fatigue and weakness
- Frequent infections
- High calcium levels
- Kidney dysfunction
Individuals with a family history of blood cancers or those who have undergone previous treatments for related conditions may also benefit from this test.
Benefits of Taking the Test
Taking the FISH Multiple Myeloma Test provides several benefits, including:
- Accurate diagnosis of multiple myeloma
- Identification of specific chromosomal abnormalities for personalized treatment plans
- Monitoring of disease progression and response to therapy
- Guidance for oncologists in making informed treatment decisions
Understanding Your Results
Results from the FISH test will indicate the presence or absence of specific chromosomal abnormalities.
